2009
Serge Spitzer (1951 - 2012) è nato a Bucarest e trasferitosi a New York a partire dagli anni Ottanta, è considerato uno degli artisti più importanti della sua generazione. Dalla fine degli anni Settanta molti dei lavori più impegnativi di Spitzer sono stati realizzati come grandi installazioni permanenti o temporanee in importanti esposizioni internazionali, come Documenta 8 e le Biennali di Venezia del 1999, Istanbul del 1994, Lione e Kwangju nel 1997. Sia quando si serve di materiali compatti come una trave di acciaio, sia quando usa mezzi apparentemente deboli come un filo, il suo lavoro è animato da una sensibilità scultorea per equilibri precari e dalla complicità immaginativa e fisica dello spettatore. Anche quando utilizza prodotti industriali o tecnologie sperimentali le sue opere mantengono un aspetto quotidiano, normale e in qualche modo ironico. Processi di sviluppo molto complessi trovano soluzioni che risultano profondamente familiari, fortemente evocative e concettualmente allusive nella dimensione fisica, ma anche sensibili al contesto sociale e politico.
