Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy

Domenico Mangano (born in Palermo, IT, 1976) has worked as a visual artist since 2000. Marieke van Rooy (Weert, NL, 1974) studied art history and is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of the Built Environment, University of Technology Eindhoven. They have been working together as a duo since 2014. The duo was formed after an artistic (individual) experience of Domenico Mangano, begun in the late nineties. Marieke van Rooy comes from a background of History of Architecture and Urbanism. Their work is structured on the combination of research and artistic practice. In their operations there is the fusion of archival research and participatory and educational components in an artistic process that is transformed into different productions: films, space installations, photos, drawings, performances and publications. Their narrative approach uses the methods of anthropological analysis through the application of the concept of "field work" and archival study, using the visual image as an instrument of investigation. The aim of their projects is to present micro-stories that reflect on the human being, his emancipation, real and ideal politics, social architecture and local stories.
