From May 16 to July 1, 2026, the Magazzino del Sale in Cervia will host the second edition of ENDLESS SUMMER, a three-year exhibition series (2025–2027) conceived by MAGMA APS. By analyzing the utopian idea of an endless summer as an evocative and narrative device, the project stems from a desire to experiment with new forms of collaboration linked to individual curatorial practices, envisioning the exhibition as a jam session in which every critical and authorial specificity is valued without rivalry or competition.

ENDLESS SUMMER thus takes shape as a shared experience built on dialogue. Over the course of the project’s three years, a group of curators from different generations—each with their own sensibilities and lines of inquiry—invites visual artists, both emerging and established, active on the Italian and international scenes, to reflect on summer as a potential poetic inspiration. A season in which time seems to stretch out, light redefines rhythms and spaces, and new perceptions, visions, and desires take shape dynamically.

The project operates within this suspended dimension, evoked more as a state of mind than as a mere climatic phenomenon: summer thus becomes a perceptual threshold where the intensity of experience intertwines with its own transience, and the vitality of the present is already accompanied by melancholy for the season’s inexorable end.

The project’s title is taken from a documentary on surfing made in the 1960s by Bruce Brown, in which the director follows a group of surfers traveling across the two hemispheres in search of a perpetual summer. ENDLESS SUMMER captures this paradox, evoking the image of an endless season: an unattainable ideal, an almost utopian dimension.

The works selected by the curators—ranging from painting to video, from sculpture to photography and performance—interact with one another through free dynamics of juxtaposition and resonance. This gives rise to a vibrant and organic space for dialogue, developed in an atmosphere of mutual trust between the participating artists and the curators collaborating on the project.

At the end of the three-year exhibition cycle, a publication will be produced that will bring together all the works presented over the course of the editions, documenting the various approaches to the theme and the curatorial trajectories that have emerged.

This thematic series was conceived by MAGMA specifically for Cervia and produced with the support of the City, with the aim of fostering a local interest in contemporary art and contributing to the promotion of certain cultural, social, and anthropological characteristics of the community that hosts the exhibition. The choice of theme also stems from a desire to highlight the city’s strong connection to the summer season, a poetic catalyst still capable of generating surprising imagery.

ENDLESS SUMMER is an invitation to experience the exhibition as one experiences summer: with an awareness of a full and present intensity, yet one destined to fade away.
